free mp3’s without bittorrent…

or other file-sharing apps for that matter. now, i’m going to start off by saying i in no (read zero) way condone illegal behavior. i believe that if you really like the artist, go out and support!

with that out of the way…

russian site allofmp3.com has been catching a lot of slack lately from across the pond here. the first thing you’ll notice is that you can download entire albums for less than $2. still too much for you future ybp’ers on a budget? peep the free way.

allofmp3.com has released an app called music for the masses (story here). while you can preview the albums on their page, you can also download them for free in 128kbps quality with their DRM-encoded .mp3x format. trick is, you have to use their player which means no playing on your favorite dap or burning them to a cd.

well, a few hackers have released a way to crack that DRM. simply download this file here. it contains the music for masses executable and the hack (click the ‘free’ button to skip the ad). make sure to have an account at allmp3.com. find the album you want. download it by adding it to your cart, clicking free mode. it will take a sec for the tracks to encode. refresh when done. the next screen will give you a link to each song track. if you hate clicking each link to download, check out the downloadthemAll firefox extension. automatically lets you download all links on that page. the links for the music look like screenshot 1 above.

pick the location you want to save your files. once they are finish downloading, follow the ReadMe in the hack after you have unzipped the folder. you may need a copy of winrar to open the .rar if you don’t already have it. winrar is like winzip. if you did it correctly, you should get mp3 files in your ‘MusicForMasses’ directory with a xxxxxxx.mp3 file name. the ‘xxxxxxx’ should be numbers. you can use an automatic rename program that looks at the ID3 tag of the file to rename the file. peep one here.
