tech news 1/17: “barack in ‘08″ edition
hopefully all of you yo-pros are staying safe and warm as the ice storm blows through the country. on with the short-edition:
slashdot via youtube has this article about how ‘my-beats-are-very-sick’ timbaland may have stolen a melody from a finnish artist from back in the day. the video on youtube shows the demoscene artist playing his original sample over timbaland’s beat for nelly furtado’s ‘do it’.
filed under ‘coolest thing walking right now’, the hamilton news has an article on an inventor who has created a ‘halo-esque’ battle armor suit for real life application. made with high-impact plastic, ceramic bullet protection, and ballistic foam, i wouldn’t be surprised if this was reality in the coming century.
sony has released details about their high definition theater pc, the vaio vgx-tp1dt media pc. while my better judgement about sony products says ‘ignore, ignore, ignore’, something is drawing me to the form-factor goodness. mmmmm…..form-factor.
last, but not least, robert scoble, a popular blogger, former Microsoft technical evangelist, and vp of media for podtech.net, had a really interesting article about the concept of ‘default racism’. essentially, scoble did a little test of his peers to see if his statement of ‘obama won’t win because he is black’ would elicit a response. while he usually blogs about his personal view on technology, the comments within the post offer some unique dialogue on the concept. it basically follows the idea of ‘if a tree falls in the forest with no one around, does it make a sound?’
